Sun Prints: A Free Workshop led by Kate Stapleton Parzych Date/time: Saturday, May 11 / 12-2pm In conjunction with the 5x12 series (WNYBAC's latest series of 5 exhibitions over 12 months), the WNY Book Arts Center will be hosting a free hands-on workshop led by Kate Stapleton Parzych, a visual artist and arts educator working in digital and darkroom photography and creator of WNYBAC's current exhibition, Currents. The cyanotype is one of the earliest forms of photography (photogenic drawings) to be discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1842. It is an iron-based process, different than the traditional silver-based process of black and white darkroom photographs.
In the spirit of Anna Atkins, a botanist working at that time with cyanotypes to document algae and plants in England, we will be creating sun prints of local plant life. Please bring in leaves, grasses, or flowers that you would like to experiment with! We will have a variety of objects to print with if you prefer. All attendees will go home with their very own sun print! This workshop is FREE & open to the public! Register here to save your spot!

Foldbooks utilize a simple premise. However, the variations and combination
possibilities make this book form truly versatile. Create a collaborative
fold book along a common theme. Course participants will initially explore
foldbook variations before creating their own collaborative book. This
workshop is in conjunction with the *Il Libro Della Notte *Foldbook exhibit.
