Youth Summer Book Arts Camp

This past week, we held Youth Summer Book Arts Camp at the WNY Book Arts Center. We had so much fun working with the kids to create some really impressive book-art inspired pieces. From paper marbling to printmaking methods, a variety of media was explored and we want to share the experience with you!

The kids experimented with collage and illustration during Button Making. Each student went home with about a dozen unique and colorful buttons at the end of the day.

Bookmaking was explored with a simple origami folding technique that turns into a beautiful accordion Dragon Book!

Students had fun learning the Screenprinting process and creating beautiful two color prints.

Letterpress Printing printing was also on the curriculum. The kids printed color and black & white prints of a selection of animal cuts from our collection!

The kids enjoyed experimenting with the possibilities of Paper Marbling.

We re-purposed old books to create Book Origami! The kids learned a variety of ways to achieve beautiful results with simple folding techniques.

The final project for the group was to collaborate to create a zine! Each student designed their own page using collage and illustration. The pages were then photo copied and stapled, in true DIY fashion.

We had such a great time working with the kids this past week & we are excited to hold more programs like this in the future!

  1. What a great camp! After reading the article it makes me want to do it also! Do you have “classes” like this for adults? 🙂
