An Exhibition by Catherine Shuman Miller

on view October 2 – October 24, 2020

The Western New York Book Arts Center presents an exhibition by WNY artist Catherine Shuman Miller, on view October 2 – October 24, 2020.

The work in this show is inspired by dwellings or spaces that we inhabit. These are real or perceived spaces we embody both physically as well as psychologically.

“The structure of the grid allows exploration of space and movement. Through overlapping and layering lines and shapes, emerges a type of organic geometry. My approach to working is playful and rhythmic. Whether the process is printmaking, painting, or collage, the grid holds the formal structure and provides a point of departure through which I can bend, twist, or alter my artwork. I observe and am inspired by the rhythm and movement found in nature, as well as in man-made environments. In my work I create movement and space through layering and variations in tone, color, line, and texture. The work in this show is inspired by dwellings or living spaces. Spaces that we live in both physically and psychologically.”
