PRINTING PARTNERS CLASS SCHEDULE

10/14 – Origami Dragon Chain Books

What makes a book a book?! In this simple step-by-step class, we’ll discover one possibility of what a book can be! Using repetition, pattern–and always an odd number of pages!–students will use specialty binding tools to make a book as long as they please, with time allotted for personalization.

All materials provided in the Printing Partners Materials Kit.
Included supplies:
bone folder, glue stick, 6”x6” papers, 3”x3” cover papers, colored pencils, pencil sharpener

10/28 – Monoprinting with Autumn Leaves

There are so many ways to create prints, and in this class we’ll show you a simple way to create highly detailed prints at home using a monoprinting technique…with just paint and a little bit of nature! Students will need to gather a handful leaves (fresh or dried, but not too brittle) in different sizes for this class, all other materials are provided in the Printing Partners Materials Kit.

Included supplies: Test paper, printing paper, paintbrush, paint
**
Please collect a small handful of fallen leaves, and make sure they’re not too crunchy 🙂

11/11 – Quilling

A very old technique for decorating book covers, quilling is an easy and fun way to create textured images with colorful papers! Utilizing a specialty quilling tool, students will create a quilled design by rolling, pressing and glueing paper strips together for a sculptural 3-D art piece!

All materials are included in the Printing Partners Materials Kit.
Included supplies: quilling tool, paper strips, backing paper, colored pencils, glue, glue brush

12/2 – Kumihimo

Book Arts isn’t just bookmaking & printmaking! The art form also includes types of fiber arts as well! Kumihimo is a decorative Japanese braiding technique, used for everything from jewelry to creating hand-stitched books. Using a template, students will learn this simple step-by-step technique and create a length of braid to incorporate in book making projects, or use however you like!

All materials are included in the Printing Partners Materials Kit.
Included supplies: yarn, foam template, scissors

10/21 – Pop-Up Accordion Books

We’ll create another origami book together this week! Using specialty binding tools, students will fold one (yes, one!) sheet of paper into a book and use scissors, planning, and a little imagination to create fanciful pop-ups! Turn your book into a story, or a sculptural work of art.

All materials provided in the Printing Partners Materials Kit.
Included Materials: book page paper, cover paper, glue stick, scissors, colored pencils, pencil sharpener

11/4 – Hand-Stitched Pamphlet Journal

Building on our bookbinding skills, students will learn about more specialty tools to create a hand-bound book perfect for journaling, sketching, and more! We will be using a needle for this class, young children should be supervised.

All materials are included in the Printing Partners Materials Kit.
Included Supplies: bonefolder, cover paper, inside paper, paper clips, needle, thread, beeswax, scissorscissors

11/18 – Collagraph Printing

Building on our monoprinting class, we’ll learn about another method of printmaking: collagraph!  Collagraph is a basic method of printmaking using a board of collaged materials to print! Students will utilize foam to create and cut out hand-made pieces, ink up, and create a small edition (collection) of prints!

All materials are included in the Printing Partners Materials Kit.
