Learn the basics of letterpress printing from hand-setting type to pulling prints in this two-part workshop! We will cover: a brief history of the importance of letterpress printing, type-case layout and setting by hand (letter by letter!), forme building, press set-up on platen and/or bed presses, paper preparations, and printing on our antique presses.
Prints will be one-layer/one color, and participants should expect to create an edition of approx. 1-2 dozen prints in one design. It is helpful to bring to the workshop a short quote, saying, or idea of something you’d like to create along the following size parameters:
– 3.5″ x 2″ (approx.) business/calling card
– folded or flat 5″x7″ greeting card
– 8″ x 10″ poster
This is a two-part workshop, participants must attend both Thursdays 3/19 and 3/26/2020 from 6-9pm.
Workshop is limited to 4 participants to ensure quality of instruction. Pair this Basics workshops with our Advanced Letterpress Workshop to further develop your skills, and attend Open Studios as a working Member in our community-based printshop.
