Wat You Mean presents an Poetry Open Mic hosted by Marquis Ten Thousand Burton on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Book Arts! Doors open at 6:00 p.m., sign-up at 6:30 p.m. The event is free.

Step into the spotlight and share the verses that stir your heart. Our poetry open mic awaits, a welcoming stage for your words to find wings. 

 

 

Marquis “Ten Thousand” Burton is a multi-talented artist, and educator from Buffalo, New York. For almost two decades, he has worked with Shea’s Performing Arts, Sweet Home High School, and countless schools/organizations to help people find their voices and develop their creative talents.

Marquis is a skilled poet and performer and has helped lead the Buffalo poetry teams to Top 10 finishes at the National Poetry Slams. He is also a visual artist and has collaborated with other artists to create stunning installations and immersive experiences that explore themes of community, joy, and resistance.

Through his work, Marquis is committed to empowering others and creating spaces for self-expression and growth. He believes in the power of art and creativity to effect positive change in the world and works tirelessly to inspire and uplift those around him.
