Check out our class schedule below:
September 19 | Dragon Books
An origami chain book that can go on forever, each Dragon Book page is created with the same fold. Participants will have the opportunity to use specialty binding tools to make as long of a book as they please (as long as there are an odd number of pages!), and personalize their creation. Suitable for all ages.
September 26 | Accordion Origami Books
Create an origami book! One of the most popular book folds, participants will use specialty tools to fold a handmade book with decorative covers. Participants are invited to personalize their book, with stories, pictures, cut-outs & more!
Oct 3 | Pamphlet Stitch Books
Build upon your bookmaking skills! Participants will learn to use more specialty tools, and create a unique hand-stitched journal made from recycled posters. To bind this book we will be using needle & thread, with options to modify for younger students, or make a more complicated stitch for those who have joined us before. Suitable for all ages.
October 10 | Origami Flag Books
Building on the accordion fold we learned in previous weeks, participants will create an origami book with pages that flap like flags in the wind! Flag Books emphasize color and pattern, with small ‘pages’ for little messages. Suitable for all ages.
October 17 | Paper Treating: Bubble Printing
A fun and simple way to decorate paper, bubble printing uses a little bit of water, soap and dye to make colorful bubbles that pop onto our paper…with interesting results! Take yours home, or save for next week, when we’ll bind books with our decorated papers. Suitable for all ages.
October 24 | Japanese Stab Bound Books
Building on the pamphlet stitch journal, we’ll again use specialty tools to create another hand-bound journal. Use the colorful bubble prints we created the previous week, or choose from a collection of pre-made covers. To bind this book we will be using needle & thread, with options to modify for younger students. Suitable for all ages.
October 31 | The Art of Quilling
In this workshop, we’ll focus on quilling, an old art of paper rolling originally used to decorate book covers. Participants will roll, loop, curl & twist small strips of paper, gluing together to create colorful 3-D designs. Create your own design out of paper, or choose a halloween holiday theme! Bring in one of your hand made books to quill a cover, or create a completely new piece of art! Suitable for all ages.
November 7 | Screen Printing
Create a hand-printed poster or t-shirt! Participants will learn about the art of screen printing from design creation to print pullin’, and use specialty printing tools to pull their own print. Participants are welcome to bring a light colored t-shirt, tote bag, pillow case, or other cotton/cotton blend fabric piece to print on! Suitable for all ages.
November 14 | Letterpress Cards
Learn about the antique art of letterpress! Participants will choose from image blocks and individual letters of type to spell out words and personalize a set of greeting cards, printed on a mobile press from the 1950s. Suitable for all ages.
November 21 | Wearable Art: Buttons
Always a favorite, participants will create special wearable art pieces using a button maker! Button possibilities are endless: hand-drawn designs, tiny collages, and found imagery from old books & magazines. Suitable for all ages.
