January 25 | Dragon Chain Books

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | An origami chain book that can go on forever, each Dragon Book page is created with the same fold. Participants will have the opportunity to use specialty binding tools to make as long of a book as they please (as long as there are an odd number of pages!), and personalize their creation. Suitable for all ages.

February 1 | Paper Marbling

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Learn the age-old art of paper marbling! Using special marbling inks, we’ll create colorful decorative papers…and be sure to come next week, when we’ll bind our decorative paper into hand-made books! Suitable for all ages, small children should be supervised by a guardian.

February 8 | Hand-Stitched Books

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Create a hand-stitched book! Participants will learn to use more specialty tools, and create a unique hand-bound journal made from the marbled papers we made last week! To bind this book we will be using needle & thread, with options to modify for younger students, or make a more complicated stitch for those who have joined us before. Suitable for all ages.

February 15 | Origami Books Oh My!

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Create a selection of origami books using one of the most popular book folds: accordion! Participants will use specialty tools to fold handmade flag books, cut out books and more, all with decorative covers. Participants are invited to personalize their books with stories and pictures, too! Led by a guest teaching artist. Suitable for all ages.

February 22 | Papermaking

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Create your own handmade paper! Learn about creating pulp and pulling sheets of paper….P.S. we’ll use this paper to create handmade books next week! Suitable for all ages.

February 29 | Japanese Stab Bound Books

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Building on the pamphlet stitch journal, we’ll use specialty tools to create another hand-bound journal from the handmade papers we created the previous week!! To bind this book we will be using needle & thread, with options to modify for younger students. Suitable for all ages.

March 7 | Monoprinting With Found Objects

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Monoprinting is a fun printmaking method that allows us to create prints of everyday objects…we’ll ink up foods, strings, and silly things! The results will amaze you! In this workshop, we’ll also focus on creating a collaborative design made up of our monoprints, to screenprint onto paper and shirts next week. Make sure to attend both classes to see your design turn into print! Suitable for all ages.

March 14 | Screen Printing shirts & More!

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Screen printing is a fun printmaking method that allows us to create multiples of the same image on posters, t-shirts and more! In this workshop, we’ll focus on printing the collaborative design we created the previous week. Participants will use specialty printing tools to pull their own print. Paper for posters is provided, please bring a light colored t-shirt (old shirts are fine:), tote bag, pillow case, or other cotton/cotton blend fabric piece to print on! Suitable for all ages.

March 21 | Power of the (Letter)Press!

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Learn about the antique art of letterpress, the way books and newspapers used to be printed! Come with a cause or motto you want to share with the world. Participants will collaborate to create a set of small posters, setting individual letters of type to spell out words. Printed on a mobile press from the 1950s. Suitable for all ages, younger children to be supervised.

March 28 | Wearable Art: Buttons

11am-1pm @ The WASH Project | Always a favorite, participants will create special wearable art pieces using a button maker! Button possibilities are endless: hand-drawn designs, tiny collages, and found imagery from old books & magazines. Suitable for all ages.
