Screen Print Basics Workshop
April 18, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Learn the basics of screen printing from image creation to pulling prints on paper or apparel in this workshop! Participants can expect to learn a brief history of screen printing, how to create images suitable for the medium, how to burn screens, mix ink, prepare paper, and of course, print! The instructor will guide participants in using specialty artist tools in to our newly-renovated screen print studio. Completed prints can be made on paper or apparel (t-shirts, tote bags, etc).
This is a one day class, focusing on the process of screen printing and exposing what’s possible with the medium, with your design to be printed in one day. Prints can be made on paper or on fabric pieces. We will break briefly for lunch.
PLEASE BRING:
– A one color design to print (hand-drawn or digital file on usb or emailed to[email protected])
– Any fabric pieces you wish to print on (up to 6 pieces)
Book Arts will provide paper, any fabric pieces must be provided by the participant. Suitable fabric pieces must be 100% cotton or a cotton blend. Lighter color and smoother fabrics work best. Book Arts sometimes has shirts of various sizes available for $5/piece, please inquire during the workshop. Please call 348-1430 for any questions about suitble fabrics to print on.
Completed screen print projects can be one (1) design as a:
– a print on paper (card, poster, etc.) up to approx. 8″x10.” Paper is provided by Book Arts.
– a printed fabric piece 100% cotton or cotton blend (tote-bag, tea towel, shirt/apparel).
Participants can expect to create up to 1 dozen prints on paper or 1/2 dozen on fabric, depending on design and printing substrate.
Workshop is limited to 4 participants to ensure quality of instruction. Pair this Basics workshops with our Advanced Screen Print Workshop to further develop your skills, and attend Open Studios as a working Member in our community-based printshop.
