Fruit on Blue, Lydia Kegler

Lydia Kegler’s exhibition, Fruit on Blue, explores the aesthetics of pleasure. The oil paintings that comprise this body of work consider the symbolic, ephemeral, and emotive value of both fruit and color. Fruit on Blue is the conclusion of Kegler’s Master of Fine Art degree at the University at Buffalo.

Lydia Kegler (American, born 1995) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Buffalo NY. She is currently a University at Buffalo MFA candidate, and has a BA in Creative Writing and Literature from Naropa University’s School of Poetics (2019). Her oil painting, drawing, embroidery, textile work and installation centers on the aesthetics of pleasure. Drawing on themes of the body, fruit, and dessert, her work explores the ephemeral. A continuous thread in her work is attempting to understand connections and repetitions within botany and anatomy, and their interlaced symbolic meanings.

Kegler has exhibited in solo and group shows including CEPA, NeMLA, El Museo, Impact Art Gallery (Buffalo), ARC Gallery (Chicago), Studio Gross (Tokyo), Luca, JCC Foundation (Los Angeles), Nalanda Gallery, and Trident (Boulder). Her work is published in “Sitting: The Physical Art of Mediation” (2017).
