Turning Breath into Art, Marquis Burton

In the Book Arts Main & Studio Galleries, experience the artistry of Marquis “Ten Thousand” Burton in “Turning Breath into Art,” an exhibition where poetry meets visual art. For over a decade, Ten Thousand has been creating art from his breath through improv poetry, and now he invites you to witness the transformation of his words into visual experiences. In his studio residency with Book Arts, Marquis has been experimenting with letterpress and screen print techniques to translate his poetry into printed works. Journey with Marquis to explore the beauty and transitions of life, captured through this creative expression. Join us for the Opening Reception of Turning Breath into Art on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 5 pm to 8 pm. Additionally, Book Arts will host a closing Poetry Event led by the artist on Saturday, June 22nd from 3-5pm.

 

           

 

The Book Arts Studio Residency invites emerging artists to experiment with various printmaking processes in our community studio for a two month period, culminating in an exhibition of their artworks.  Find out more about the residency program.

Marquis “Ten Thousand” Burton is a distinguished poet, visual artist, and educator from Buffalo, NY. He boasts a 20-year career collaborating with esteemed community, educational, and art institutions. He channels his creative energy into teaching adults and children to find their creativity and voices while mentoring local poets and poetry teams for international & national competitions. Beyond the stage, he has collaborated with several artists to curate multimedia experiences exploring healing, joy, and the human experience. A driving force in the arts and education, his legacy as a catalyst for self-discovery and creative expression endures through grassroots community workshops and nurturing emerging talent.
