About the Artist – Pat Pendleton

I returned to Western New York a few years ago after living in various other places. Making paintings has been a common thread through it all—mostly, paint on paper, canvas or wood, often including elements of textiles or paper collage. I view self-expression and all kinds of art experience as potentially medicinal (healing). Gestures, ideas, and marks become a kind of choreography. The process of arranging and layering materials, color, and textures is a way to dialogue with my time and place. Check Pat Pendleton Studio on Facebook to see my online show, Marks of Repair (June 5-27, 2020).

1 review for Pink Tower – Pat Pendleton

While the subject at hand is very clear, as it is named the “Pink Tower,” it is interesting to experience multiple perspectives of the tower in close proximity to one another. From left to right the tower’s silhouette is brought forward, revealing a pink interior. As the background fades into a shades of green and grey, the gated design stretches to the edge of the frame, suggesting the cold and metallic texture of the monument. A part of me wants to romanticize its pink beauty, though it proves difficult without acknowledging its structural blackened exterior.
