Wood Engraving Intro Workshop with Artist Joanne Price of Starpointe Studio
Sunday, July 8th | 10am-4:30pm
Celebrate summer and get intimate - with Wood Engraving! Join us for a taste of this intricate craft. The delicate details, and bold woodcut characteristics of wood engraving are perfect for adding illustrations to letterpress cards, artist’s books, broadsides or to create a stand-alone image. Learn to cut your own original drawings into end-grain hardwood blocks and walk away with a summer-themed collaborative poster! Instruction will cover material basics, creating and transferring images, engraving, and proofing. All levels welcome - some drawing experience helpful, but not required. Participants should bring a 2 x 3 inch drawing to class - or some public domain images for tracing will also be available. Age: 18+; no previous experience required. Cost: $90 + $35 Materials Fee / $85 Members and Students with valid ID + $35 Materials Fee (+ $5 Service Fee) BECOME A MEMBER  
About Joanne Price
A native Western New Yorker, Joanne Price has over 25 years of printmaking experience including teaching at University of KY, Augsburg College, University of MN, and Penland School of Crafts. Price is the founder and owner of Starpointe Studio, specializing in printmaking and book arts, is the President of the Wood Engravers’ Network as well as an elected member of the Society of Wood Engravers. In addition to participating in national and international exhibitions, Price was a recent recipient of an Artist Initiative grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women and has been an artist-in-residence at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Her work is included in the collections of the Guangdong Museum of Art, China; Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum, Two Rivers, WI; Yale University, New Haven, CT; University of Colorado, Boulder, CO; University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY; Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN and many more public and private collections.

Cancellations with less than 48 hours will not receive a refund. • Sold out classes will accept a waiting list. • All workshops will take place at the WNY Book Arts Center and have no prerequisite knowledge required unless otherwise noted.
