An Exhibition by Bonnie Morrisey

on view September 23rd – November 3rd, 2023
Studio Gallery

Bonnie was awarded a Book Arts Studio Residency after a piece of her artwork was honored as the “Best in Show” piece at the 2022 Members’ Exhibition. That piece, Heartache, was a very special piece that she created in response to the reversal of Roe v Wade.

She describes herself as “an easily distracted fiber enthusiast, enjoying sewing, spinning, knitting, papermaking and weaving”. She often uses handmade paper, sometimes spun or woven, but always with an abundance of machine stitching, in her artwork, inviting the viewer to take a closer look and explore the details.

The opening reception will be held Saturday September 23rd, 2023 from 5-8pm.

The Book Arts Studio Residency invites emerging artists to experiment with various printmaking processes in our community studio for a two month period, culminating in an exhibition of their artworks.  Find out more about the residency program.

“Heartache” (2022)

Bonnie’s “best in show” winner from last year’s Members’ Exhibition

Bonnie Morrisey has always tackled projects with designers’ instincts. Whether working as a framer or design consultant, teaching sewing and knitting classes, or craft filled workshops, she’s always calling on her love of color, texture and pattern as inspiration and to make everything more interesting.

Bonnie studied Design, in her hometown, at Buffalo State College where she spent most of her time creating with pulp and paper. Her artwork was exhibited at galleries across New York state, in some small galleries in Buffalo and at the Albright Knox Art Gallery’s Western New York Exhibition. More recently her paper assemblages have been on display at WNY Book Arts Members’ Shows and in local private collections.
